Semi double bloom
Evergreen tall shrubs or small trees renowned for their large, showy flowers and dark green foliage.
Choose an open position sheltered from hot afternoon sun or a site with very light shade given by small leafed trees. Dense shades restricts flowering.
Well drained, friable loam is best. Try to avoid heavy clay or light sandy soils.
Keep moist, particularly in dry weather and preferably apply mulch such as compost, leaf mould or other organic matter in late spring to keep roots cool. May be trimmed to shape in early spring. Fertilise annually and avoid adding lime.
